Emily Crook

CLARINET/E FLAT

Headley Trust Scholar at the Royal College of Music, studying with leading clarinetists. Currently on trial as principal with Manchester Camerata and freelances with ensembles including the BBC Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, and English National Opera.

Anthony McKenna

CLARINET

Graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, currently studying a Masters degree at the Royal College of Music. An active chamber and orchestral musician, he has freelanced with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

Ed Pelham

BASS CLARINET/CLARINET

Studied at the Royal College of Music and completed a master’s in Stockholm. Now dedicated to the bass clarinet, he performs with the Hyde Quartet and curates recital programs, alongside orchestral work under conductors such as Vasily Petrenko, Martyn Brabbins, and the late Andrew Davies.

Hannah Shimwell

CLARINET/BASS CLARINET

RCM Master’s student and Wilkins-Mackerras Award holder. Freelances with ensembles including the BBC Symphony and Britten Sinfonia, while also exploring folk traditions and new collaborative projects.


Formed in 2020, the Hyde Quartet is a dynamic clarinet ensemble comprising current Royal College of Music students and alumni. They are current awardees of the Countess of Munster Musical Trust’s recital scheme and have recently been selected to perform at the Bloomsbury Festival in the upcoming season. They are apart of the Kings Place Young Artist Platform and were previously Tunnell Trust award holders through which they undertook a successful tour of Scotland, performing in Lanark, Gatehouse of Fleet, and Falkirk. They will return to Scotland for further engagements in October, alongside appearances at additional festivals, including Christ Church in Hertfordshire.

Committed to outreach and education, the Hyde Quartet are grateful for opportunities to engage with children in primary schools across southern England through the Deal Music and Arts programme.
